Apostasy among the Primitive Baptists
(Examination of the falling away of the Primitive Baptists)

In my short pilgrimage in Canaan's land (The Church Kingdom), things have changed greatly. The zeal and adherence to scriptural principles that I first admired in the fathers and mothers I observed in Israel (the Church) has in many cases turned to untempered mortar. Many good soldiers of the cross have passed on and their stations have been taken over by men that seek changes in the Old Baptist Church. Many of the lambs in Canaan's land which do not have the strength of their own to withstand the sly and cunningness of those wolves in sheeps clothing need the strength, boldness and steadfastness of faithful soldiers of the cross. Where are you standing in this perilous time? Are you so fearful of rocking the boat that you will remain silent, as the future generation is being lead captive into Egypt? To hear the cry `peace, peace` when there is no peace only confuses the flock. True love for Christ and his Kingdom (the Church) is shown by being bold and faithful in standing for the faith once delivered unto the saints.

The statement that false practices will lead to false doctrine is just as true as the statement that false doctrine will lead to false practices. The older order of Baptist held to the principle that the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God and is the only rule of faith and practice. This being true then we should be able to judge the fruits of men by the word of God and either accept or reject their teachings on the basis of that word. "Ye shall know them (False prophets) by their fruits." Matthew 7:16 …Elder Claude McKee

Changes in Alabama Primitive Baptists  The majority of Primitive Baptist churches of Alabama and indeed the United States of America have accepted changes in Church practices that our forefathers in the faith stood against in the past. The result is that many have failed in their stewardship of the church and no longer want the Church to remain just like the Church they joined.

Opposing the Apostasy among the Primitive Baptists At this point in time, calling for forbearance with those who clearly have designs of changing the Primitive Baptists doctrine and practices is equivalent to supporting them in their departures. The editors of the Gospel Appeal shy away from publicly naming and opposing such men as Lasserre Bradley Jr. and Gus Harter whose actions clearly reveal their desire to change the Primitive Baptists but the paper shows little restraint in publicly lambasting fellow conservatives.

Guilt by Association Some object to the ideal that the company we keep labels us. Birds of a feather flock together is an old saying that has merit and generally applies in this day and time also.

False Prophets among the Primitive Baptists The Lord warned his disciples to: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles".( Matthew 7:15-16)  The fruits of certain  men among the Primitive Baptists leave no doubt that their intention is to change our doctrines and practices. To be faithful servants of the Lord Jesus Christ, we must follow His teachings and oppose these departures of faith.
