CONTENT WITH THE OLD WAY
John was a Baptist, because he practiced the act of baptism. Every partaker of his work was likewise a Baptist. Jesus Christ Himself was a Baptist, because He was a partaker of John's work. He built a church out of baptized believers. So, being a Baptist Himself, and building a church of Baptists, the first church, we conclude, was a Baptist Church. The first evangelist was not sent by a Board to preach; therefore, we conclude that Boards are not Scriptural. And as Christ or His apostles did not give us a Board, then why inaugurate them now?
Christ did not give them a Sunday School. God being a Rock, and His work being perfect, if the Church was made better by Sunday school we wonder why this wing of perfection did not get a start for more than 1800 years after Christ built the church?
The Devil always wants to start something new and try to put a Bible dress on it. Old Baptists who want a Sunday School want to call it a Bible Class, Study, or something else; but it is the same devil's baby, and regardless of the kind of a dress you put on it, it still has the same face and motives. It is prompted by the spirit of evil.
If we continue in the old paths of salvation by grace and Bible practices, peace abounds; but alas, trouble will always start over new measures. If you have got to have the world, go where the world is. It is asking for you, but we are not wanting the world; and if there are some members we can't get without conforming to the world we are better off without them. We would have to feed them on the world after we got them, and as we do not have any hay of that kind to feed out of this Book, the Bible, don't get somebody's calf you can't feed. ---Elder Ariel West The Primitive Baptist, 1939
