The Gates of Zion

"The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God". Ps 87:2-3
From Mt. Pisgah's lofty height our Lord showed Moses that promised land saying, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither". Deuteronomy. 34:4 Why was Moses not allowed to enter into that which God had promised and revealed unto him? The answer is recorded in Numbers 20:12 where it reads, "Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them" The fact that Moses failed to obey the Lord by sanctifying God in the eyes of the children of Israel resulted in the deprivation from entering into the land. It should be no different today. How can those that refuse to give God all the praise honor and glory and exemplify that by their obedient walk, believe that they shall be blessed to claim a home the inner parts of the gates of heaven here on earth. Plainly, how can those with corrupt practice claim to be the Lord's Church? I have no doubt that Moses held the doctrine. Moses knew that salvation was of the Lord and that Lord is the gracious God of all mercies being gracious to whom He will be gracious, and shewing mercy on whom He will shew mercy. Moses knew the truth but his feet wouldn't conform.
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. God is love. Yes, brethren, in this fact the children of God rejoice! We need not go further than the 87th Psalm to see God has "discerning" love. I have no doubt that God loves all his children but this text is so comforting to Zion, the city of God here in this world. True, glorious things are spoken of Zion the city of God! They are recorded in plain words and types and shadows throughout the scriptures. But unless I am deceived, there are few more "glorious things" spoken about Zion that the fact that the Lord loves His Church more than wherever his children are found that will not present their bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is their reasonable service. Let us pray to be found not being conformed to this world: but being transformed by the renewing of our mind, that we may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
