MODEST APPAREL
In Like Manner also, That Women Adorn Themselves in Modest
Apparel --- 1 Tim. 2:9.
Prior to this verse of Scripture Paul gave men admonition concerning prayer and following this admonition he wrote concerning the women, saying in like manner which means in the same manner or spirit relative to worshiping God through the medium of prayer saying, "I will therefore that men pray everywhere ---"
I certainly want to admonish women in all of the love in my heart, knowing what they mean to the church and to God's servants everywhere. Without them in the churches we would be in a desolate, miserable and sad condition and many of our churches would fold up. I certainly love the women, our sisters in Christ, and for the love that I have for them and for the cause I am writing this article.
Because I love you dear sisters, I want to admonish you relative to modest apparel. I do not think that pant-suits should be worn to church for any type of service, singing, praying or preaching. I will not say that pant-suits should be classified as immodest but they are certainly not as modest as well-patterned dresses. A well patterned dress worn by a God-fearing woman is beautiful in the house of God.
In the 22nd chapter of Deuteronomy, the fifth verse we read: The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man. Neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God. We know that we are not under the law dispensation but I believe this scripture has a carry-over effect into the gospel dispensation, pertaining to the way we dress, stressing the definition of modesty.
God loves beauty which was demonstrated in all of the patterns given in the tabernacle and temple worship. God's handiwork in nature displays His love for color and beauty.
I have not written this as a rebuke to anyone but for the love that I have for you and for the anxiety that I have for our religious services to our blessed God. My prayer is that God will continue to bless us in all of our churches and that He will impress and lead all those that love Him to join our ranks. Elder George R. Hunt (Deceased) Kathleen, GA
