Two Types of People
Elder Ralph Harris
There are characters mentioned in God's word that are of no account in His eyes. Such are those who are "as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed" (II Peter 2:12). These, you see, "shall utterly perish in their own corruption" They are the same ones that our Lord said were of their father the devil, and to whom He said, "The lusts of your father ye will do" (John 8:44). It is also said of them that they "are the children of the wicked one" (Matt. 13:38). Cain was the first example of this kind of person. In one single verse we are told of both his corrupt character and of one of the deeds that was motivated by that character (I John 3:12). He murdered his brother. "Without faith it is impossible to please God" (Heb. 11:6), and such people do not possess faith. No unreasonable and wicked person has faith (See II Thessalonians. 3:2), and Paul prayed to be delivered from such. He wanted no part of them, and neither does any other godly man, because every act of that kind of people is sinful in the eyes of God, for "Whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Rom. 14:23). Christ did not die for those that make up that "world" that He would not pray for (John 17:9) and therefore their sins are imputed to themselves and they will pay the ultimate penalty for them. They are not among those to whom the Lord "will not impute sin" (Rom. 4:8, II Cor. 5:19).
But thanks be unto God there is a clear distinction made between the wicked sons of Belial (the devil) and the heaven born children of God! The children of God have been drawn to Him by His loving kindness, and, in their measure, have been given the graces of the Holy Spirit. Consequently they love Him and His people, and they desire to walk in paths of righteousness. They hate the ways of wickedness and they look forward to that glorious day when they will be with Christ. It is delightful to them to think of one day being like Him and being forever satisfied in His presence.
Do you, dear one, sometimes question in your mind which side of the fence you are on; whether you are one of the Lord's little ones of if you are one of that other crowd? Well, even the fact that such questions sometimes arise within your heart is a strong evidence that you are among the redeemed family of God. The wicked never have such thoughts. --Bro. Ralph
