What think Ye of Christ?
By Elder Wiley Sammons
from his book 'Identity of the true Baptist Church'

"What think ye of Christ, whose son is he? They say unto him, the son of David." Matthew 22:42. "He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, sit on my right hand, till I make thine enemies they foot stool" Matthew 22:43,44.

The Pharisees answered that Christ was just the Son of David.

I wish to put this question to the people who read this: What think you of Christ? Do you think that he is the Son of God or do you think like so many living in the present day that he was Josephs son, the carpenters son, or the son of David, as the Pharisees did? Many of the religious schools say that he was just a good man and they are teaching this to young men that will declare this from the pulpit. As a result many people will accept this as the truth since the man that declares it has a college degree, a good personality, and uses the Lords name. The Lords people need to read the Bible for themselves and believe what Gods word says because Gods word is true. Unless we believe the truth about the origin of Christ and what was accomplished in his death and life, we cannot believe in the power of his resurrection and if there be no resurrection our faith and preaching is vain, says Gods word. Regardless of what the Pharisees thought or what men say today, God speaking in his Holy Word declares that Christ was the Son of God, the only begotten Son of God. In Matthew 17:5, "Behold a voice out of the cloud which said, "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him." Certainly this was God speaking; also in Matthew 3:17, "and lo a voice from heaven saying, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." I could refer you to many places in Gods word that acknowledge this glorious fact, but I think the two mentioned above should forever settle that Christ was the Son of God.

"And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory (as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth." John 1:14 and 16 of the same chapter, "and of his fullness have we all received, and grace for grace." Now, to doubt Gods word would be to deny that there is a God and that his Son was the Saviour. Men often say in lip service that they believe in the Lord, but deny he power. Did he not raise the dead and he himself came out of the tomb in spite of all the men who were guarding the tomb? Certainly then he had power to come forth from the grave and he always gave God his Father the credit for the power he had. Where did man come from? In the beginning, God made man by his creative power and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils and he became a living soul. This life is called natural life. Also God gives eternal life, or what is sometimes called spiritual life, through his Son, Christ Jesus. This is the work of Grace. God alone can give eternal life. The Lord in his prayer in the 17th chapter of John said, "Thou has given him power over all flesh that he should give eternal file to as many as thou hast given him." When Christ suffered and died, he paid the sin debt for his people and brought about reconciliation between God and man. Therefore God can be just and forgive man his sins, through Christ that died and paid the sin debt. Christ is not dead because he rose from the dead. "I am he that was dead! Behold I am alive forever more." All spiritual blessings are in Christ Jesus, "I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly." God gives eternal life through Christ when man is born again. God by his grace shed his love abroad in their heart and gives the principle of faith, which is the eye of the soul, then man I capable of walking by faith and not by sight, as the Lord commands.

"Wherefore seeing we are also compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God" Hebrews 12:1 and 2

I would to God, that America would wake up and realize that Gods love and commands cannot be modernized and changed to suit man. Every Nation that has trampled the Lords commands underfoot, changed and disregarded Gods Holy commandments has crumbled, and the wrath of God came upon them for their own doings. Let all people realize that their responsibility to God must be uttermost in their lives if we are to continue to enjoy the great heritage that our forefathers passed down to us through their true faithfulness and devotion to the Lord and his commandments.

The state of our nation today is an example of trying to change Gods unalterable word to suit the way people are traveling.

Let this nation as a people, give all diligence to our walk as well as our talk, by walking in the good way and by acknowledging God in all our ways, and he will direct our paths.

Christ was the Son of God, and is now, and will continue to be the only Saviour of man.  Wiley Sammons
