Ephesians 2:1
“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and
sins;”
It is very important
to know who the Apostle Paul is addressing when he wrote “And you
hath he quickened” Most people seem to believe that the
scriptures are addressed to all mankind and by their acceptance or
rejection their eternal destination is determined. Nothing could be
further from the truth, Paul said YOU when addressing the Ephesians
in this epistle. Looking at verse one will further define who the
YOU are: when he said. “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the
will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful
in Christ Jesus: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father,
and from the Lord Jesus Christ”.
The YOU are the
saints at Ephesus and the faithful in Christ Jesus. He
was telling these identified children of God that they were once
dead in trespasses and sins but was quickened by Jesus Christ. The
only way any dead alien sinners obtains spiritual life.
The spiritually
dead does not have the capacity to perform good works, he must first
be quickened (made alive) before he can truly call on, accept or do
anything pleasing to God. “But without faith it is impossible to
please him: …” Elder Claude McKee
