Modesty
Adam and eve covered themselves with fig leafs but God
covered them with a coat of skins. Surely that teaches us something
about modesty. We have been bombarded with so much nudity in the
present day society, that we have just about become desensitized and
don’t realize the great departure from biblical principles in our
dress. I know that many condemn this view as meddling and think that
we should stick to preaching the Gospel and leave these parts of the
bible out. I beg to different, the scriptures plainly teach
simplicity and modesty in our dress and it should be taught to God’s
people. “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest
apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or
gold, or pearls, or costly array. But (which becometh women
professing godliness) with good works.” (I Timothy 2:9-10) “Whose
adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair,
and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel: But let it be
the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even
the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of
God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy
women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in
subjection unto their own husbands: “(I Peter 3:3-5). These
scriptures mainly refer to the woman but modesty applies equally to
the man. Elder Claude McKee
