Mercy
“It
is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his
compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy
faithfulness”. Lamentations 3:10-11
Jeremiah
wrote these words after the nation of Israel was defeated and became
servants of Babylon. Being warned time and again that they would
serve Nebuchadnezzar for 70 years because of their disobedience to
God, they were persistent in rejecting God's laws and ignoring his
servant Jeremiah.
Even
in bondage, his people are recipients of God's Grace and Mercy which
is not dependent upon the will or works of man: “For he saith
to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, And I will
have compassion on on whom I will have compassion.” So then it is
not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that
sheweth mercy.” Romans 9:15-16
We
can all look at our personal lives and know without his mercy we
would all be consumed and our destination after this life would,
without His mercy, be justified internal punishment. That is why the
doctrine of God's choice, mercy, Grace and the successful works of
Christ sounds so good to a believers ears.Elder Claude McKee
